The group discussed the role of ISBT 128 beyond labeling. The role of ISBT 128 beyond labeling includes standardized terminology, reference tables, and standardized electronic messages for the transfer of MPHO product information from one facility to another.

Proposal 18-001 MPHO Unique Identifier OID for Table RT042 was approved and the group discussed the background on Object Identifiers (OIDs). These OIDs can be used in electronic messages such as HL7 messages. The ISBT 128-defined OIDs are listed and defined in the ISBT 128 reference Table RT042.

The group discussed creating an International Blood TAG. The blood products category is the only area that currently does not have a TAG dedicated to the global focus on blood. The regional blood TAGs (such as EMATAG) would continue to have a regional focus while the International Blood TAG would focus on issues such as standardized terminology. This standardization can facilitate the process of shipping products from country to country.
