Job Description: 

An opportunity to play a role in enhancing the safety and efficiency of transplantation and transfusion by joining the dynamic team at ICCBBA to help support implementation and understanding of the ISBT 128 Standard.

For over 30 years, ICCBBA has maintained and developed the ISBT 128 Standard, which helps ensure that data critical to medical products of human origin is transmitted consistently and accurately. ICCBBA is recruiting an Education Specialist to expand our outreach and better equip ISBT 128 users with the knowledge necessary for success.

  • Make the most of your critical thinking skills and creativity to generate innovative ideas for content and workflow solutions. 

  • Harness your outstanding organizational skills to develop and manage a structured educational program for ISBT 128 Standard users and potential users. 

  • Utilize your superb presentation skills to deliver educational materials in person or remotely to internal and external global audiences in a variety of formats, including but not limited to publications, conferences, meetings, trade shows, and web events. 

  • Bring your enthusiasm to learn new skills and strengthen your abilities. 

  

A Typical Day for an ICCBBA Education Specialist: 

  • Report to the Deputy Technical Director. 

  • Discuss priorities and work strategies. 

  • Work on the assigned tasks. 

  • Monitor efficiency and identify opportunities for improvement. 

  • Undertake projects of a technical education nature as assigned. 

  • Collaborate with other ICCBBA team members to develop educational material and programs. 

 

ICCBBA’s Contributions to your Personal and Professional Development:

  • Provide the tools necessary to be a successful team member. 

 

General:

Staff may be instructed to perform other tasks occasionally to support the wider team in achieving the organizational objectives. 

  

Qualifications:

  • BS or equivalent in Education-related disciplines 

  • Desirable: Deep understanding of pedagogical principles and practices 

 

Experience with: 

  • Educational material and curriculum development 

  • Preparation and delivery of learning content via online platforms 

  • Workshop design

About ICCBBA: 

ICCBBA is an international standards development organization based in Redlands, California, USA. It manages the ISBT 128 Information Standard for Medical Products of Human Origin (MPHO) and is a non-state actor in official relations with the World Health Organization. The organization is governed by an international volunteer Board of Directors and managed by an Executive Director located in Spain. ICCBAA is ISO 9001:2015 certified.  

The ISBT 128 Standard was developed in 1994 and is used in over 5,000 facilities worldwide. Originally developed for use in blood transfusion, the standard now supports all MPHO. Development of the standard is achieved through a collaborative process involving a global network of volunteer subject matter experts.   

 

We, as an ICCBBA Team: 

  • Enhance patient safety by promoting and managing the ISBT 128 international information standard for use with medical products of human origin. 

  • Manage international information standards for transfusion medicine, transplantation, and other applications of medical products of human origin in support of traceability, biovigilance, and patient safety. 

  • Liaise with health authorities, regulators, scientific and professional societies, user communities, and vendors on standardization in terminology and information technology. 

  • Provide educational programs to promote the value of, and need for, information standards and policies to support traceability and biovigilance. 

  • Provide technical consultation regarding the implementation and management of ISBT 128. 

  • Lead in the continued development of common data structures for information technology, data processing, exchange and transfer, and labeling for medical products of human origin.
